THE DESIGN
I illustrated portraits of regional coffee specialists and included next to descriptions of their favorite coffees and brewing methods. The language is very much in the own words of each person and thought that the familiar style needed something a little more than a snapshot. I drew from photos and emphasized friendliness and approachability.

Allegro Spring Organic Promotion, 2010

THE CONCEPT
Allegro was one of the first organic roasters in the country and they are very proud of this fact. It’s their strong belief that every choice to purchase organic coffee results in more than just delighted taste buds. The purchase also has a positive impact on the people who grow their coffee, the land they work and live on, and, if only an acre at a time, the beautiful planet we share.
THE DESIGN
Focusing on the agriculturalness of coffee, I researched vintage fruit and vegetable crate labels. Borrowing from that style, I created some labels for the coffee. Hopefully capturing the authentic, fresh, and natural quality that ALlegro wants to impress on its coffee drinkers.

Valentine’s Day Promotion, 2010

THE CONCEPT
The Carmelita Latté is a popular favorite drink for the coffee bars in Whole Foods Market to sell. We created a short promotion around Valentine’s Day for this beverage.
THE DESIGN
I created the concept showcasing this delicious beverage and creating illustrations characterized by tattoo styles about love. I worked with the photographer to prop style and create an overall color palette. I had a particular composition already designed for this and just wanted a simple authentic looking latté.

Vanilla Latté Promotion, 2010

THE CONCEPT
The techniques involved in creating lattés require knowledge and practice. The result is a beverage very different than the types Starbucks or other large coffee chains offer. The drinks are a one-of-kind authentic experience much like that of fine dining or wine.
THE DESIGN
I worked with the photographer to create a very simple setting ambiance much like that at the coffee bar itself. I had an espresso machine installed for the shoot as well as hired and expert with gallons of milk to steam away. We did pour after pour, latté after latté, to capture the essence and beauty of the latté.

Rwanda Karaba Promotion, 2010

THE CONCEPT
Nearly unknown for its coffee a decade ago, Rwanda has quickly become one of the most esteemed growing regions in the world. Grown on small, garden-like farms that dot the rolling hills around the village of Karaba, the beans are produced by the Koakaka cooperative, who process, evaluate and taste each day’s production to ensure a consistently delicious cup.
THE DESIGN
I reused artwork that was commissioned for the coffee bag a few years earlier. Since the fixture would be full of these colorful loud bags I wanted to balance the noise with quiet, clean and clear marketing materials.

Wellness T-shirts, 2009

THE DESIGN
I designed four tshirts to create a buzz about a launch of a brand new product line of wellness teas. I used a scatter design of all of the little symbols from the fourteen different packages. I also had an opportunity to use organic teas which was a nod back to the fact that this is also an organic product. Tshirts are always a favorite of people working in Whole Foods Market. It gets them interested and then they can interest consumers in the product.

Special Reserve Organic Guatemala La Magnolia Promotion, 2009

THE CONCEPT
The coffees chosen for Allegro’s Special Reserve program represent the best that organic coffee has to offer, from great farming practices to great taste. Allegro donates $10,000 to each organic farm featured in their Special Reserve program. Finca La Magnolia sits on a verdant mountainside in the rugged mountains of western Guatemala. The farm looks out to the 9000ft Lacandón Volcano. Power on the farm is generated from a water mill fed by a vast system of channels that collect water from the many fresh mountain springs.
THE DESIGN
I had an illustration created to depict the natural surroundings specific to this farm to create a unique and attractive branding for this coffee.

Special Reserve Organic Ecuador Espindola Promotion, 2009

THE CONCEPT
Allegro will donate $10,000 to the Fapecafes cooperative to expand the irrigation project that was started in 2007 with additional water collection ponds, spray heads, and drip irrigation materials for members of the co-op. The goal of the project is to decrease the stress from rainfall shortages, variability, and distribution issues. Water stress affects the yields and quality of coffee plants. The end goal of this project is to improve the overall volume of the co-op’s specialty coffee production.
THE DESIGN
I had an illustration created to feature the characteristic dress and patterns of Ecuadorians to create a unique and attractive branding for this coffee.

Celebration Caffé and other Holiday Promotions, 2009

THE CONCEPT
Allegro Coffee creates a special blend each holiday season that celebrates the uplifting, joyful and easy rhythm of holiday gatherings. This is the biggest push of the year for grocery stores and retail stores.
THE DESIGN
For Allegro’s Holiday promotion 2009, we chose a direction hinting at the familiar and nostalgic holidays at home. I used a lot of antique ornaments in both the photo direction and in the illustrations on all of the marketing materials.

Limited Edition Rainforest Blend, 2009

THE CONCEPT
The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices and business practices by working directly with coffee growers and coffee roasters. This year the Rainforest Alliance is awarding Allegro its Corporate Green Global Award for their commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. To celebrate, Allegro has created Rainforest Blend, a limited edition commemorative blend that combines beans from three of their favorite farms in Central America.
THE DESIGN
I used a rainforest illustration full of frogs as a reference to the Rainforest Alliance branding it. In addition, I created a twist on the branded Allegro labels for this special award since this was a limited edition coffee.

Caffeinate Your Conscience, 2008

THE CONCEPT
To position Allegro Coffee as an authority and leader in exceptionally delicious coffees sourced using ethically and environmentally sound practices. Launch cause coffees early and focus on our sustainability before Earth day in order to capture customer’s share of mind first. As the world’s climate changes and animal habitats shrink migratory birds have found a sanctuary in the shade of coffee farms in Central America. Shade grown coffee farms support the largest number of forest-dependent migratory birds of any agricultural habitat.
THE DESIGN
I targeted bird species that migrated from our farms in Central America to our consumers’ yards in North America. I had whimsical, bright, tropical illustrations created for those birds and used them in association with fun facts about migration in a variety of POS and marketing materials surrounding this promotion.

Branded Sandwich Board, 2008

THE DESIGN
I designed a simply constructed weatherproof chalkboard sandwich board with handles for easy moving around. It reinforced the Allegro brand and was consistent with their current messaging.

365 Winter Blend Case Pack, 2008

THE DESIGN
I created a case pack for the 365 Winter Blend coffee that mirrored the packaging. I wanted these boxes to be used to create custom merchandising areas. I created them so each of the corners line up to create the whole cup and mitten image.

THE DESIGN
The 2008 Holidays are light and fun this year and all of the marketing materials reflect that with colorful garden of snowflakes on a clean white winter background. Allegro featured their newly released Mayan Spice drinking chocolate in this mocha beverage. I directed the photo shoot for the image in this poster that was implemented in all Whole Foods Markets for the Holiday season 2008.

THE DESIGN
I designed the red snowflake foil packaging to be flexible enough that it worked as a base for all labels. The labels had specific information regarding ground, whole bean and decaf. Also I created very different colored labels so that it would be very easy for a consumer to differentiate at a quick glance.

THE DESIGN
This is the first year that Allegro has offered a Holiday tea. The tea is a green tea with some citrusness to it so I designed to packaging to reflect the taste. It echoes the design for the coffee packaging but with a different color palette.

THE DESIGN
I designed a chocolate T-shirt to accompany a chocolate promotion. Because often team members at Whole Foods Market try to collect promotional t-shirts we used these shirts as a way to push more product into the stores. This is a two-sided, seven-color tshirt.

THE CONCEPT
The great taste of chocolate begins at its origin – the land itself. Allegro takes these unique flavors and creates a variety of single origin drinking chocolates that are rich, distinct and flavorful enough to be enjoyed cup by cup.

I directed the photo to have a rich origin feel of the source of the drinking chocolate itself. I designed the materials to all tie back to drinking and cooking with the chocolate

Blends for a Spin T-shirt, 2007

I designed a t-shirt to accompany a seasonal promotion about Allegro blends. The direction for this promo was “Take Our Blends for a Spin”. I created these circles which could be wheels or records. The process was basically a four color print. But because we were able to vary the density, it appears to be many more colors.

THE DESIGN
Allegro purchased a vintage Volkswagon bus and outfitted it complete with an espresso machine and coffee bar. I designed bold funky graphics that combined the Allegro brand and the 60s feel of the VW bus.

THE DESIGN
One thing is for certain; the holidays mean lots of cheery red. I started with the creation of the coffee packaging and label. The loose lines and bird shapes are reminiscent of 1970s church stained glass windows. These shaped I then used to create cups and all other POS.

Holiday Drink Coasters, 2007

THE DESIGN
I wanted to do something different to send out as a holiday card and a thanks for commitment to Allegro, so I came up with a design on what is typically German beer coaster material. These coasters came joined two together in an envelope that you had to break apart. The idea is that you use them when you drink Allegro coffee with a coffee buddy.

Beyond Alzheimer’s Disease, 2003

THE CONCEPT
Cutting edge information presented is by the doctors who are at the top of Alzheimer’s research in a meeting for other doctors and people treating this disease.
THE DESIGN
Created a program handout as well as other materials (direct mail pieces, meeting banners, etc) that feature a subtle image of a brain and slide images for reference.

Prostrate Cancer, 2002

THE CONCEPT
A national series of prostate cancer lectures on the hot topics in the industry focusing on new treatments. Doctors looking to keep their continuing education credits current participate in this program.
THE DESIGN
I designed multiple direct mail pieces using their brand colors and featuring the locations and targeting men since this is a disease targeting the male population. I also created large 200 plus page educational guides for use for reference.
